Reading for Life
Countless studies have proved the academic benefit of reading widely for pleasure. Reading widely and regularly not only improves your vocabulary, spelling and understanding but it has also been linked to improved results in Maths. At Sedgefield Community College we actively promote a culture of reading across the school not only for the academic benefits it brings but also for the sheer enjoyment that comes from reading a good book. |

The Learning Resource Centre
The school library is located in the Learning Resource Centre. We are very lucky to have an extensively stocked library for all of our students to use. The library is open everyday to students at break and lunchtimes. In addition to this, all Key Stage Three students visit the library once a fortnight during their English lessons and Key Stage Four students visit the library at least once a term during their SMSC lessons. Please see the letter for more information regarding the library. |

SChool Librarians
We have a dedicated team of student librarians to support our LRC manager, Mrs Siddall. The student librarians are studying for the School Library Association's Student Librarian Award, a prestigious and nationally recognised award. Applications are always welcome from students - see Mrs Siddall in the library for further information.

Accelerated Reader
|
From September 2014, we will be launching Accelerated Reader with our Year 7 students. Over the next three years, the Accelerated Reader programme will be rolled out to all students in Key Stage Three. AR allows teachers to develop a reading programme to suit the individual needs of all students. On average, AR will produce two years' reading age growth in just one academic year. Please see the parents guide for more information. |
